Is NET Law 058 affiliated with UGC or NTA?

No. NET Law 058 is an independent study resource and is not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by the UGC, the NTA or any government body.

Names such as UGC NET are used only to describe the subject matter. For official notices, applications, admit cards and results, use the NTA's UGC NET website only.

Do I need an app? Does NET Law 058 work on mobile?

You do not need an app. NET Law 058 runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with a layout that adapts to the screen.

Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. The interactive tools (MCQs, mock tests, timers) need JavaScript turned on.

UGC NET Law exam: pattern, eligibility and dates

The exam basics. For anything that can change, we point you to the official source.

What is the UGC NET Law (058) exam pattern?

UGC NET is a single three-hour computer-based session with two objective papers: Paper 1 (general aptitude) and Paper 2 (your subject, here Law 058). Every question is multiple choice and carries 2 marks.

  • Paper 1: 50 questions, 100 marks.
  • Paper 2 (Law): 100 questions, 200 marks.
  • Total: 150 questions, 300 marks.

Paper 2 carries two-thirds of the marks, which is why NET Law 058 is built around Law practice. Patterns can change between sessions, so check the current Information Bulletin.

How many questions and how much time are there in UGC NET Law?

Across both papers there are 150 questions in one continuous three-hour session: 50 in Paper 1 and 100 in Paper 2 (Law).

As a pacing target, not a rule, about one minute per question leaves roughly 30 minutes to review. NET Law 058's full-length Law mocks are 100 questions in 90 minutes, with a harder set at 120 minutes. Confirm the exact instructions for your session in the NTA bulletin.

Is there negative marking in UGC NET Law?

No. Recent UGC NET sessions have awarded 2 marks for each correct answer and no deduction for wrong or unattempted questions.

Because wrong answers cost nothing, attempting every question is the usual advice. All NET Law 058 mocks follow the same rule: 2 marks per correct answer, no negative marking. Rules can change, so confirm in the bulletin each cycle.

What is the eligibility for UGC NET Law?

Eligibility depends on your qualifying degree, the minimum marks required, and (for the fellowship) an age limit. Exact criteria are fixed in each year's NTA Information Bulletin, so read it before you apply.

In general, a master's degree in Law (typically an LL.M. or equivalent) with the prescribed minimum marks is the usual route, with relaxations for reserved categories and provisions for final-year candidates and four-year undergraduate programmes. An upper age limit applies to the JRF, while Assistant Professor eligibility has had no upper age limit.

Percentages, age cut-off dates and relaxations change, so we deliberately do not quote them here.

What is the difference between JRF, Assistant Professor and PhD qualification?

UGC NET results place qualified candidates in three categories: JRF with Assistant Professor and PhD eligibility, Assistant Professor with PhD eligibility, or PhD admission only.

Which category you fall into depends on your score and the cut-offs NTA declares for that session. Qualifying makes you eligible; appointments and admissions are decided by the institutions concerned.

When is the next UGC NET exam?

NTA announces UGC NET dates on its official website, usually for two sessions a year. Check the public notices there for the confirmed schedule.

The exam countdown on our homepage uses a date we set as a study aid and can lag behind official changes. Always treat the NTA notice as the final word.

How do I apply for UGC NET, and where do I get the admit card, answer key and result?

Only through the official NTA UGC NET portal. NET Law 058 does not handle applications, admit cards or results.

Be careful with look-alike websites and anyone asking for money to "guarantee" a seat or a result. Applications, fee payment, correction windows, admit cards, answer keys and results are all published by NTA.

What is the UGC NET Law cut-off?

Cut-offs are decided by NTA for every session and category, so there is no single fixed number.

The official cut-off is published with the result for each session, so use the NTA notice as the final word. To see how Law cut-offs have moved, our Cut-off Trend page compiles past figures for every category and shares an indicative range for the next session. That range is our own analysis, not an NTA figure, and no score is guaranteed to qualify.

UGC NET Law syllabus and units

The ten Paper 2 units, how we show them, and how to confirm the official syllabus.

What is the UGC NET Law (058) syllabus, unit by unit?

The Law paper is organised into ten units, and NET Law 058 mirrors them for practice so every question maps to a unit.

  1. Jurisprudence
  2. Constitutional and Administrative Law
  3. Public International Law and IHL
  4. Law of Crimes
  5. Law of Torts and Consumer Protection
  6. Commercial Law
  7. Family Law
  8. Environment and Human Rights Law
  9. Intellectual Property Rights and Information Technology Law
  10. Comparative Public Law and Systems of Governance

The official syllabus is published by NTA/UGC. Use it as the final reference and use our syllabus explorer to study and practise topic by topic.

Which units are most important in UGC NET Law?

Every unit can appear, so none can be skipped safely. Our syllabus explorer shows an importance rating and common question patterns for each module as a guide to where to spend more time.

These ratings and patterns are our indicative estimates from past papers, not official weightage, and papers change from session to session. Use them to prioritise revision, not to leave units out.

How do I make sure I am following the latest syllabus?

Compare your plan with the syllabus on the official NTA/UGC website at the start of every preparation cycle and again when a new bulletin is released.

Laws also change, for example the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 replaced the Indian Penal Code. Check bare Acts and amendments for any provision you rely on, even when a practice question seems clear.

Where can I find the Law syllabus on NET Law 058, and can I practise from it?

Open the Syllabus section on the homepage. Each module lists its topics and links straight to practice questions for that unit.

You can also choose a module under Law 058 to start practising MCQs for that unit right away.

Free UGC NET Law mock tests

Timed, exam-style full-length papers with result analysis. Free, no sign-up.

Where can I take free UGC NET Law mock tests?

On the Mock Tests section of the NET Law 058 homepage. They are free, need no sign-up, and you can start any mock in one click.

Each mock is a full-length Law (Paper 2) practice paper with a running timer, question palette and mark-for-review, so you can rehearse the exam's pace and pressure.

How many mock tests are there and what do they cover?

Currently there are six full-length Law mocks of 100 questions each, covering all ten units. Five are standard sets (including a revision mix) and one is a deliberately harder set.

  • Mock Tests 1 to 5: 100 questions, 90 minutes, 200 marks. Mock 1 is built as a balanced blueprint of 10 questions per unit; the fifth is a revision mix of earlier sets.
  • Mock Test 6 (hard): 100 questions, 120 minutes, 200 marks.

More mocks are added over time, so check the Mock Tests section for the current list.

How are NET Law 058 mock tests timed and scored?

Each question carries 2 marks, so a 100-question mock is out of 200 marks, with no negative marking. A countdown timer runs throughout and the test is submitted automatically at zero.

You are warned at 15, 5 and 1 minute remaining. Use the question palette to see answered, not-visited and marked-for-review questions at a glance.

What do I get after finishing a mock test?

You get your score out of 200, a subject-wise analysis that highlights weaker units, and a full answer review with explanations.

You can also retake a test after a few days, or move to another mock, to check whether your weak areas are improving.

Can I resume a mock test if I close the page or my connection drops?

Yes. If you refresh or close the page, your attempt and remaining time are restored from the same browser when you return. The timer does not pause while you are away.

This works only on the same browser and device, and not if you clear site data or use private browsing, because progress is stored locally.

What do the Hard and Tough labels on mocks mean?

They are our own practice bands to help you stretch yourself, not official NTA difficulty levels or cut-offs.

Treat a harder mock as stamina and accuracy training. A lower score there does not predict your real result.

Are the mock tests identical to the real NTA exam interface?

No. They are exam-style (timer, palette, mark for review) but are not NTA's software, so the real exam screen will look and behave slightly differently.

Check the official NTA website for any practice interface it offers and try it once before exam day.

MCQ practice

Free Law MCQs with explanations, unit-wise filters and progress tools.

Where can I practise UGC NET Law MCQs for free?

In the MCQs section and inside each Law 058 module on the homepage. NET Law 058 has 4,000+ Law questions, including mock-test questions, all free.

No account is needed. Pick a unit, try the question first, then check the answer and explanation.

Can I practise unit-wise or topic-wise?

Yes. Filter by any of the ten Law units, or use search to find questions on a case, Act or concept.

Long lists are split into ranges (1 to 100, 101 to 200 and so on) with page navigation and a jump-to-question option, so you can pick up exactly where you left off.

Do the MCQs have answers and explanations?

Yes. Each question has a short explanation. Try it first, then tap the eye icon to reveal the answer and the reasoning.

Prefer to review in bulk? Use Show all answers. Explanations are written for quick revision and should be checked against the bare Act or judgment for anything you plan to quote.

What types of questions are included?

Direct recall, statement-based, assertion-reason, match-the-following and case-based questions, in the styles seen in UGC NET Law, with a strong case-law focus.

Practising all formats matters, because each one rewards a slightly different reading strategy.

How do I save questions and review my mistakes?

Star (★) any question to save it, then use the Saved filter. A status filter also lets you show only Mistakes or Unanswered questions.

Reviewing your own mistakes is usually the fastest way to lift a score. This progress is stored in your browser.

What are the daily goal and streak?

They are built-in habit trackers: set a daily target of questions, and your streak grows when you hit it on consecutive days.

A small, steady daily habit tends to beat occasional marathon sessions.

Is there a quick test I can take in a few minutes?

Yes. The homepage test is 20 Law questions in 7 minutes, with 2 random questions from each of the 10 units, freshly shuffled every time.

It submits automatically at 0:00, keeps your best score on your device, and feeds your answers into the Mistakes and Unanswered filters and your daily goal.

Pomodoro timer and study tools

A free focus timer and the small features that make daily practice easier.

What is the Pomodoro timer on NET Law 058?

It is a free focus timer built into the site: work in focused rounds (25 minutes by default) with short breaks in between, and a longer break after four rounds.

  • Two presets: 25 minutes focus with a 5-minute break, or 50 minutes focus with a 10-minute break.
  • Long break after every four focus rounds (15 or 30 minutes).
  • Controls: start, pause, optional sound, and a count of rounds completed today.

How do I use the Pomodoro timer while practising?

Open any MCQ practice list and the timer appears at the bottom left of the screen. Start a round, practise until it ends, then rest.

It keeps running as you move between pages, so you will not lose a round by switching units. A good rhythm is one round for a block of questions, then use the break to review mistakes.

Why is there no Pomodoro timer inside mock tests?

Mock tests use their own exam timer, and a second clock would be a distraction. The Pomodoro timer is for study and practice, not for timed papers.

Does the Pomodoro technique help with UGC NET preparation?

It can help you stay consistent: short, focused rounds with planned breaks make long preparation easier to start and sustain. It is a study habit, not a guarantee of results.

Treat each round as one clear task, such as one unit's 30 questions or one case-law revision, and finish it before checking your phone.

What other study tools does the site include?

A live exam countdown, daily goal and streak, saved questions, search, mistakes filter, a reading-progress rail with back-to-top and go-to-bottom buttons, 8 colour themes, dark mode and adjustable text size.

All of them are free and work without signing in.

Notes, case law, PYQs and books

What is available, what is on the way, and where to look in the meantime.

Where can I find UGC NET Law previous year questions (PYQs)?

A dedicated PYQ section is being built for NET Law 058. In the meantime, NTA publishes past question papers and answer keys on its official website.

Our MCQ bank and mocks are original practice material, not reproductions of official papers. Use official past papers to learn the real style and our practice to build speed.

Are notes available on NET Law 058?

Short revision notes are being added, built for quick recall of cases, conventions and Acts. The practice questions already carry explanations you can use for revision.

Check the Notes section for what is live. Notes are an aid, so keep your textbooks and bare Acts as the main source.

Does NET Law 058 cover case law?

Yes. Case law is a focus across the question bank, including case-based questions and explanations that name the leading authority.

For citations and exact holdings, always verify from the judgment itself or a reliable law report.

What are the best books for UGC NET Law?

There is no single best list. Start from the official syllabus, use a standard textbook for each unit, read the bare Acts, and revise key judgments.

We do not endorse particular publishers. A simple order that works: the syllabus first, one reliable textbook per unit, bare Acts and amendments, landmark cases, then practice questions and mocks to find gaps.

Can I suggest a topic or request content?

Yes. Write to us with the unit and topic you would like covered.

Useful suggestions are added in later updates, though we cannot promise a date for any single request.

Preparation strategy

Practical ways to plan your time. Adapt them to your own schedule.

How should I prepare for UGC NET Law in 30, 60 or 90 days?

Whatever the timeline, cover the syllabus once, practise unit-wise every day, and shift to timed mocks and mistake review in the final weeks.

  • 90 days: about 50 days of unit-wise study with daily MCQs, then revision with a weekly mock, then a mock every 2 to 3 days with careful review.
  • 60 days: about 30 days covering units by importance, then revision and mocks on alternate days.
  • 30 days: skip fresh deep reading. Revise notes and bare Acts, drill MCQs by unit and take frequent mocks.

These are suggestions, not a guarantee of results.

How should I use MCQs and mock tests together?

Use unit-wise MCQs to learn and fix gaps, and mocks to practise timing, stamina and exam temperament.

After each mock, spend as long on the review as on the test: read every explanation for the questions you got wrong or guessed, then re-practise those units with the Mistakes filter.

How do I stay consistent while studying for UGC NET?

Make the habit small and visible: a daily question target, one or two Pomodoro rounds, and a streak you do not want to break.

Combine the daily goal with the Pomodoro timer, and plan breaks as seriously as study. Consistency usually beats long, irregular sessions.

How do I revise case law effectively?

Revise each case as a trio: the principle it established, the provision or doctrine it relates to, and one fact that helps you recall it.

Group cases by unit, use MCQ explanations to spot how cases are tested, and re-check holdings from the judgment before relying on them.

How do I manage time in the 3-hour exam?

Paper 2 carries two-thirds of the marks, so protect time for it. Aim for roughly a minute per question, mark doubtful ones for review and return after finishing the rest.

Since wrong answers carry no penalty, do not leave any question blank. Rehearse this pacing in the timed mocks before exam day.

Progress, privacy and technical help

Where your data lives, and what to do if something looks wrong.

Where is my progress saved? Will I lose it?

Your progress, saved questions, mock attempts and settings are stored in your own browser on that device. There is no account, so nothing syncs to other devices.

Clearing your browsing data, using private mode, or switching browser or device will start you from scratch. Use the same browser for your whole preparation.

Does NET Law 058 collect my personal data?

You never need to give a name, phone number or email address to use any feature of the site.

Study progress, theme and timer settings are kept in your browser's local storage. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. If our data practices change, this page and the Disclaimer and terms will be updated.

How do I change the theme, dark mode or text size?

Use the Theme button in the header to pick one of 8 colour themes, the moon or sun icon for dark mode, and the A A A bar at the top for larger text.

Your choices are remembered on that browser.

Is the site accessible?

It includes a skip-to-content link, keyboard-friendly controls, screen-reader announcements, adjustable text size, light and dark modes, and it respects reduced-motion settings.

If you hit a barrier, tell us and we will work on it.

Something is not loading or working. What should I do?

Reload the page, make sure JavaScript is enabled, and update to a recent browser. If it still fails, email us with your device, browser and what you were doing.

Avoid private mode while testing, because it can block the local storage that saves your progress.
